Herman Clopton

Revitalized Bowler to Walk Again on His Next Birthday

Herman Clopton Herman Clopton was once an avid bowler, participating in events throughout the city but in 2007, Mr. Clopton had his lower leg amputated and he never thought he would bowl again. But in April the Amputee and Prosthetic Center and their amputee social group, Amputees in Action had a social outing at the Palace bowling lanes. Just like the picture shows, Herman showed great determination prior to receiving his limb and his bowling skills grew as the day progressed. His next goal is to walk again by his birthday, June 28th for the first time since his amputation. "I hope to be strolling by my next birthday" said Mr. Clopton.

In his earlier years Mr. Clopton joined the Air Force in 1959 and travelled the world, stationed in England, California and Kansas. Although he did not serve in Vietnam, he struggled adapting to civilian life after the military. Several careers later, including working for a federal aviation agency, a chemical company and Memorial Hospital, Mr. Clopton recently retired. He lives here in Houston with his wife and five kids and enjoys many activities including woodwork. Mr. Clopton came into TAPC looking for a company devoted to the education and interest of amputees. After meeting with other companies in the Houston area, he was overcome with the wealth of information that he received during his first visit with TAPC. The decision came easy for Mr. Clopton and he began his prosthetic treatment with Ben Falls, CP, LPO.
