Pediatric Program
Amputee and Prosthetic Center pediatric program includes:
|
- A pediatric-friendly staff with a broad variety of pediatric experience. A library with over twenty books and periodicals written for children, addressing everything from:
- Loosing a limb from a child's perspective
- Guiding teachers on how to address amputation with amputee's classmates.
- Books for children ranging in age from 2-6, 6-12, and adolescence
- We provide every patient a doll or teddy bear that mimics his or her type and level of amputation.

"It is important that child amputees develop positive self-esteem and body image to achieve self-acceptance. Our combination of pediatric peer visitors, amputee dolls, and children's amputee books are useful not only as educational aids, but also as counseling tools, prosthetic models, and enjoyable learning for our pediatric patients." (Robyn Skogman, CPO)
