Peer Visitor
No matter how educated the healthcare team is, nothing replaces talking to a fellow amputee.
A Peer Visitor is an amputee that can truly understand and relate to the challenges and fears of our amputee patients.
The Amputee and Prosthetic Center offers a team of Peer Visitors of different age groups, personalities and genders that are carefully matched with our patient's. The Peer Visitor offers:
- Moral support for the patient and their family
- Answers to questions about limb loss
- First hand advice-from life experiences
- Resource and guidance for amputees
- Certified peer support counseling
It is the primary goal of the Peer Visitor to reduce the anxiety levels of new amputees
